PRODUCTS FOR THE FUTURE

Chemex, Inc. is a major developer of chemicals for the oil and gas industry.  Our products are used in the production, drilling, refining, and pipeline conveyance of oil and gas.

Chemex, Inc. is in the process of obtaining several patents for products being used in the oil industry.  The specialized areas covered by these products are

  • Drag reduction agents for the crude oil pipeline.
  • Other oilfield and petrochemical areas covered but not limited to include demulsifiers, desalters, corrosion control, scale control, water clarifiers, paraffin control, oil spill control agents and drilling products as well as specialty chemicals.

Chemex's product line consists principally of drilling, production and refinery chemical additives.

   HIS OIL RECOVERY/FLUID ENHANCER

HIS OIL RECOVERY/FLUID ENHANCER is a unique blend of polymers within a proprietary solvent solution.  The ability to have reacted the components together makes the product a 100% active product rather than a diluted compound.  Chemex has found two unique applications for this product.  Both involve increasing oil production from producing wells thereby increasing operators’ profits.

The first method involves stimulating oil wells by squeezing the wells with the HIS OIL RECOVERY/FLUID ENHANCER.  After a through evaluation of the wells, or field, a recommendation can be made for chemical application. An animation of one application can be seen by selecting this link.

In testing of producing stripper wells in East and West Texas, production from the wells increased from 5 barrels per day of oil to 14 barrels per day of oil.  An increase in production to 10 barrels per day of oil has been observed for six months and longer.  In testing in Venezuela, in higher production wells, we have seen an increase in oil production from 104 barrels per day to 330 barrels per day.

An increase in oil production has been seen in all tests accompanied by a total fluid volume increase with a lowering of BS & W.

HIS OIL RECOVERY/FLUID ENHANCER can also lower the viscosity of heavy crudes.  Laboratory testing has shown that when HIS OIL RECOVERY/FLUID ENHANCER is added directly to the heavy crude,  viscosity is reduced.

With the reduction in viscosity, more oil should be produced.  In Venezuela, a high API gravity diluent was added down the casing in order to facilitate the removal of crude and to increase the production.  HIS OIL RECOVERY/FLUID ENHANCER added to this high API gravity diluent in Venezuela has resulted in  lower crude oil viscosity, reduced pressure at the wellhead, and an increase in production.

HIS-WD is a blend of polymers and solvents usedto increase flow from medium to heavy crude oil production. HIS-WD lowers viscosity of highly viscous crudes which lowers working pressures in both production tubulars and pipelines. HIS-WD has been used to stimulate and increase production in older oil wells. HIS-WD can be used to decrease the amount of light crude diluent needed to improve the pumpability of heavy crude. A slide show to further detail the downhole application can be viewed by selecting this link.

       SPEEDFLOW

SPEEDFLOW is a field proven drag reducer for use in crude oil pipelines.  SPEEDFLOW has been used in the industry in lower API gravity oils as well as commodity fuels.

SPEEDFLOW is a long chain polymer used for reducing drag in crude oil pipelines for low enhancement and improvement.  The long chain co-polymers usually reduce drag by changing a turbulent flow in the pipeline to a laminar flow thereby reducing pressure and allowing increased flow throughput.

Drag reducers have a history of not only increasing the flow throughput of the crude oil but of also reducing the fuel consumption of the crude oil pumps.  All of these advantages are a must in these ever changing days of the oil industry.

SPEEDFLOW has received EPA approval for use as a diesel fuel additive.

OTHER COMMONLY USED PRODUCTS SUPPLIED TO THE OIL FIELD

DEMULSIFIERS

Demulsifiers have had a long history of involvement with reducing water content in the emulsified crude or processed oil.  Their main use is to dehydrate oil.  Not only must they dehydrate oil but they must also de-oil the water.  Water quality has become as important as oil quality.  Therefore, demulsifiers must not only dehydrate oil, drop water, but it must maintain clean, effluent water.

CORROSION INHIBITORS

Corrosion inhibitors are usually of three main types, oil soluble, water soluble or oil and water dispersible.  These products usually inhibit the destructive attack of a metal by a chemical or an electrochemical reaction.

SCALE INHIBITORS

Scale inhibitors as their name implies stops or inhibits the formation of scale in oil and water pipelines.  Scale inhibitors are categorized into three major chemical families, phosphate esters, polyacrylates and polyphosphonates.  The three most common types of scale in the oil industry are calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate and barium sulfate.

Once scale has deposited it may be virtually impossible to remove without mechanical means or acid job so it is imperative to prevent the deposition of scale.

PARAFFIN INHIBITORS

There are basically three main types of paraffin products used to suppress or eliminate paraffin buildup: these include solvents, dispersants and inhibitor/pour-point depressants.  Solvents are strictly used to dissolve already formed paraffin.  Inhibitors are used to eliminate the forming of the paraffin molecules before the cloud point.  The cloud  point is the temperature where the paraffin molecule has begun to form.  After any paraffin has formed then the addition of a dispersant would be used to keep the paraffin in solution.

WATER CLARIFIERS

A water clarifiers’ ultimate goal is to clarify water by de-oiling produced effluent water for proper disposal.  Not only do these products assist in meeting legal requirements for disposal, which is everyone’s primary concern, it also allows for retrieving the oil in the effluent stream, thereby increasing profits and reducing problems.

Water clarifiers are composed of three primary categories: metal salts, polymers and blends of these two products.  The primary purpose of these chemicals is in assisting the separation of oil and oily dispersed solids from water.

Demulsification and water clarification goes hand in hand, and in many cases requires on-site development.
